How to Own a Mistake
As humans, we're bound to make mistakes sometimes. Here's how to own the moment:
- Apologize – “I’m sorry”
- Say what you’re specifically apologizing for
- Acknowledge the impact on the other
- Say what you’ll do differently next time
Hold People Accountable
If your team member made a mistake, here's how to hold them accountable:
- Restate expectations
- Clarify where improvement is needed
- Together, create a plan to get there
- Explain what will happen if this conversation doesn’t work (next steps)
